Description

Richard House is a warehouse and townhouses, now used as offices, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The front has been extensively restored, and the interior was completely rebuilt around 1980. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brown brick and features a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the front.

The exterior consists of four storeys with three bays, along with a full-height altered loading-bay front that is weatherboarded. Each storey has a casement window, with the north end formerly featuring a loading door. On the first storey, there is a tripartite sash window with four, twelve, and four panes, and beneath a fascia and cornice, a door with six fielded panels is situated between a reconstructed bow window with thirty-two panes and another bow window with twelve panes, which used to be a shopfront. An L-shaped external stone stair leads to the second storey door, which also has six fielded panels and an overlight in a simple pedimented case.

The second storey features two tripartite sash windows with four, twelve, and four panes, alongside a Gothick fixed light. The third storey contains a tripartite sash window with four, twelve, and four panes, and two twelve-pane sashes above a sill band. The fourth storey has a tripartite sash and two single sashes. All windows have painted stone sills and gauged brick heads. Additionally, there is a cast-iron rainwater pipe and head, and two chimneys on the south gable. The southern part of the front is angled towards Shipgate Street. The interior has been entirely rebuilt.
