Description
No. 24 High Street is a house that was formerly a public house, largely built in the late 19th century. The structure is made of Flemish bond brown brick and features a graded grey slate roof. It has two storeys with two windows on the main block, plus a slightly lower left wing that has one window on the lower storey only, and a rear wing that extends at right angles. The windows have yellow sandstone shouldered and eared surrounds, with recessed-mullioned three-light small-pane windows; the bars have been removed from the center lights of the upper windows. There is a similar four-light window in the left wing. The building also has a door and blue brick diapering between the upper windows in the main block and above the window of the left wing. No. 24 is the last pre-20th century building on the north side of High Street. Some of the detailing may date from the early 20th century, but the building appears as it is shown on the first edition of the Ordnance Survey 1:2500 map from 1875. It is included for its group value.
