Description
The tombchest of Robert and Martha Ellison, located 10 meters south-west of the south-west corner of the tower of the Church of St Michael, dates from 1812. It is made of buff sandstone and is designed in a Neo-classical style. The moulded plinth supports clasping pilasters featuring Adam style detailing. The end panels are adorned with circular bosses of acanthus leaves, while the side panels display elliptical inscribed tablets surrounded by radiating gadrooning. The inscription begins with the word "Underneath" in highly ornate copperplate. The top slab has a plain cornice but is now damaged.
