Description
Bewley's Bridge is a Grade II listed single-span bridge built in 1795 over the Shropshire Union Canal. Designed under the supervision of engineer Thomas Telford, the bridge features an elliptical arch set between battered abutments and has a curved plan. At road level, there are curving two-course brick bands, and the parapet walls are topped with flush chamfered stone copings. The base of the west abutment is accented with yellow stone quoins. There have been repairs made with hard red brick to the parapets and the south face of the west abutment. Additionally, a retaining wall made of heavy sandstone blocks supports the towpath.
