Description
The Barn is a late 17th-century farm building that has been converted into a store, with alterations made in the 19th century. The structure features coursed squared red sandstone, although the rear has been replaced by brick. It has a slate roof adorned with ogee moulded kneelers and stone copings. The building is single storey and consists of three bays, built on sandstone bedrock that is exposed up to 600mm above the paving level on the street side.
The front has a softwood ledged and battened door set in a heavy frame, positioned 1 meter above the paving level. There are three blocked windows, two of which are located at eaves level. The rear side includes softwood double doors and a blocked window. The right gable end features a softwood boarded door in a chamfered frame and a single fixed-light window near the apex. Inside, the building has oak strutted trusses and wind-braced misshapen purlins.
