Description

Spring Vale is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of brown brick on a stone plinth and features a slate roof with stone copings, along with brick gable end stacks, one of which is external.

The building has two storeys and an attic, presenting a two-window gable end to the road, with a two-storey polygonal bay on the right. This bay has a hipped roof and a front door made of six bolection moulded panels within a terracotta surround on the left side. The recessed sash windows include one at the first floor center that is blocked, all featuring painted wedge lintels. To the left of the bay, there is a 20th-century eight-panel door in a doorcase with panelled reveals beneath a moulded flat hood supported by moulded cantilever brackets. The original windows are generally sashes with stone sills, exposed weight boxes, glazing bars, and wedge arches.

The right return of the house has a high stone plinth with a moulded string and raised brick bands at the first floor and eaves beneath a plain parapet. It also includes two-light horizontal sliding sashes in gabled dormers.

Inside, the house features six-panel doors, cased panelled beams, an exposed chamfered floor beam, and exposed beams and joists in the service wing. The staircase has beaded edge newels and turned balusters.
