Description

The memorial shelter on the Village Green in Christleton was built in 1886, likely designed by John Douglas, in memory of Auguste Maria Fuller. It features a base made of red sandstone ashlar and an open timber top with a pyramidal roof covered in wooden shingles, topped with a lead cap and an iron finial. The structure stands on an octagonal battered plinth with two openings, supported by bulbous turned oak balusters that hold up the roof. Inside, the lintel bears an inscription that reads:

"ERECTED BY LUCY ANN INCE TO THE DEAR MEMORY OF HER SISTER AUGUSTE MARIA FULLER WHO DIED AT CHRISTLETON ON THE 4th OF JULY 1871. BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD 1886."

This memorial shelter is similar in design to another example built in Eccleston village in 1874 by John Douglas, although it is simpler in form.
