Description

Ebnal Old Hall is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed with brick-nogged oak small framing set on a sandstone plinth, featuring stone and brick patching and a steeply pitched grey slate roof, which was likely originally thatched. The building is L-shaped with a projecting cross-wing on the left and has one and a half storeys. Each wing contains one window per floor, with additional windows on the inner side and front of the cross-wing. A Victorian brick porch is located at the corner, featuring a shaped boarded door within a triangular-headed opening. There are gabled dormers on both the right wing and the inner side of the cross-wing; the dormer on the right wing has a decorated tie beam carved with "17TT04," suggesting it may be older than the structure itself. The windows are small-pane softwood casements. The building has a ridge chimney on the cross-wing and a flush gable chimney on the right wing, both made of brick. At the back, there is a 19th-century brick outshut.

Inside, the downstairs features stone floors. The front room in the cross-wing has an oak main beam with a cyma-moulded arris, while the room in the right wing has a similar beam and an inglenook with a bar-stopped chamfered bressumer. The two rooms in the cross-wing have back-to-back inglenooks, which are now concealed. Some of the doors are broad-board style with wrought iron long hinges, and the landing features shaped splat balusters.
