Description
The statue, known as the Stag at Bay, was created in 1852 by the sculptor Raymond Smith for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster. It is made of pale grey stone and stands on a red sandstone plinth. The statue depicts a stag at bay, with its antlers being held by a huntsman dressed in Classical attire, accompanied by three attacking hounds. This statue is part of a pair of large statuary groups that were integrated into Detmar Blow's design for the east garden.
