Description

Davenham Hall is a country house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with a significant addition from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a slate roof with lead flashings. It has two storeys and an entrance front that is early 19th century in style, consisting of six symmetrically arranged bays. There is a band at the level of the first-floor window sills and a moulded cornice at the eaves.

The central two bays project slightly and feature a ground floor porch with three bays, supported by paired columns on the sides and a single column in the centre, all designed in a Roman Tuscan style with flutings at the top resembling the Delian order. Above the porch is an entablature with triglyphs. The central entrance consists of double half-glazed doors, flanked by lateral sash windows with three panes by four panes. There are two additional ground floor windows on either side, with the left side being blank. The first floor has six windows, all with three panes by four panes, and the central two projecting bays are topped with a pediment and flanked by parapets.

To the left of the main building is the original three-bay farmhouse from the mid to late 18th century. Inside, the entrance hall features a moulded ceiling adorned with Greek motifs and a granite fire surround. The staircase hall has an open well staircase with three flights, flanked by two screens of four fluted Doric columns supporting entablatures. The pendentives are decorated with fan-shaped fluting, and there is a circular lantern carrying dome above. The first-floor rooms have not been inspected.
