Description
Thatched Cottage, dating from the early 17th century, is a cottage that features a brick-nogged oak frame and a thatched roof. The jettied gable that faces the road is plastered, while the front, which has two windows, looks out onto the garden on the left. The Gothick cottage, known as The Thatched Cottage (Right of a Pair), is built against its back.
The cottage has two storeys, with the oak frame constructed of small, rectangular panels and arch bracing in the upper storey at both ends and the center. Some of the timber has been replaced with painted brickwork. The front features early 19th-century iron lattice casements set in timber sub-frames, and the front door is made of wide boards. There is a modern chimney located on the left.
Inside, the cottage contains chamfered oak beams and some doors made of wide boards. However, internal alterations and decoration have made it difficult to identify the original structure.
