Description
The structure is a cross with a stepped base located east of the path leading to the south porch of the Church of St John the Baptist. The base consists of four steps, which are likely medieval in origin, while the cross itself was created in 1901 from red sandstone. The base supports a restored plinth that holds the cross. The shaft of the cross features two brass plaques; one displays the Apostles Creed, and the other is inscribed with a dedication to Hugh Lupus, Duke of Westminster, stating, "To the honour and glory of God and in pious memory of Hugh Lupus, Duke of Westminster. This ancient cross is restored by some who loved him, 1901." The head of the cross is adorned with a carving of Christ crucified.
