Description
The late 17th-century cottage is timber-framed with plastered panels and a red asbestos slate roof. It has a two-unit plan, with a baffle entry and is single-storey with an attic, originally two bays wide. A single-storey, rendered brick lean-to has been added to the east. The small timber frame features angle braces to both the front and rear, and to both gables. Replacement oak casements with leaded lights have been installed, with attic windows only in the gables. Replacement boarded doors are at the front and rear. A central ridge stack serves as the baffle entry and provides beamed fireplace openings in both original ground floor rooms. These rooms have exposed timbers in the walls, as well as exposed bevelled beams and ceiling joists. The timber framing is unusually complete, though some internal features, such as doors, have been replaced with softwood. A glazed link-unit connects the original building to a 20th-century brick addition with a slate roof. This addition was designed to preserve the integrity of the cottage and is not itself of special interest. The exterior features include a stone plinth and ten cells of small timber framing with angle braces on the right, left, and centre. A doorway is to the left of centre, with a 20th-century three-light casement window to the right and a two-light similar window to the left. There is small framing to the left-hand gable end, and a lean-to to the lower wall of the right-hand gable end.
