Description

This is a milepost located on Eaton Road in Chester, dating from around 1900. It was made for Chester City Council and is constructed from cast iron. The milepost is an octagonal shape, standing 2 metres high on a plinth. It features a plate with corners that are pecked in a quadrant style and a top that rises to a point. The inscription on the plate reads "CHESTER 1 MILE" in sans-serif capital letters. The ironfounder responsible for its creation is RT Smith of Whitchurch, Shropshire.
