Description
Horton Grange is a house built in 1629, with some alterations made later. The structure features brick-nogged oak small framing, with parts rebuilt in brick, and it has slate roofs that were likely originally thatched. The main wing is two stories tall and has three windows, with a two-story cross-wing on each side. A gabled porch made of brick has a large brick chimney at the ridge behind it, and there is a brick lateral chimney on the left side. The original boarded door has been replaced, and the windows are timber casements. The double gable-rafters indicate that the roof was raised, likely in the late 17th century. The front collar-beam of the left cross-wing is carved with "HG 1629." There is also a small slate-roofed brick lean-to on the left side, probably added in the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected but is said to contain an interesting oak stair.
