Description
Chorlton Hall is a house with a core that is reputedly from 1664, modernised around 1810 and significantly enlarged around 1840. It has a double pile layout, with the front pile being part of the original house, a kitchen in a cross wing at the rear, and additional wings on the sides. The front is pebble-dashed, features a stone plinth, and has a slate roof. The building is 2½ storeys tall, with cellars, and has three gabled bays, with the central bay projecting. There are three cross casements. The porch, located in the central bay, has an ogee arched entrance with a hood mould and contains double doors with three panels, the upper two of which are glazed. The central bay also has a stone band at the first and second floors. The gables feature stone coping and ball finials.
The rear pile is made of sandstone and has a garden front with an arched two-storey bay that includes mullion and transom windows with metal casements, as well as a solid parapet with moulded coping. The rear also has a similar canted bay and a bowed porch situated between the rear pile and the two-storey kitchen wing. The gables at the rear are partly crowstepped and also have ball finials. There is a projecting stack, and all stacks have two or three square flues with chamfered bases and collars.
Inside, there are no features earlier than the 19th century, except for possible buttress bases in the cellar.
