Description

Chorlton Lodge is a house dating from 1825. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with pale brick headers, a rendered plinth, and a slate roof with a tile ridge. The house is two storeys high with three bays, and has single-storey wings to each side, and a two-storey wing at the rear. The windows are near-flush sashes, with the first-floor windows featuring glazing bars. Rendered cills and splayed heads are present on the windows. The central doorcase features fluted pilasters supporting an open pediment. Above the door is a fanlight with decorative glazing bars, supported on a cornice. The door itself has six recessed panels, with the upper two being glazed. A porch has been added. A plaque is inscribed with "1825 L Vaughn." The side wings are in a similar style and have hipped slate roofs. The right-hand wing has one sash window with glazing bars, while the left-hand wing has one. Dog-tooth dentils are visible below the projecting eaves and in the form of open pediments at the gables. The rear wing has near-flush sashes with glazing bars and a decorated bargeboard.

Inside, a single archway across the hall has panelled pilasters and a central boss to its underside. There are moulded cornices and fluted architraves with floral bosses at the angles. The oak stair has replaced balusters and a mahogany handrail.
