Description

Overton Hall is a house dating from the mid to late 16th century, which has been altered and features an early 19th-century wing along with later additions. It is situated on an earlier moated site. The building is timber framed with painted brick nogging on two facades and is mostly faced with brick. It has slate roofs with tile ridges and is designed in an L shape over two storeys. There is an exposed stone stack that is stepped with a chamfered drip, and the upper portion is made of brick and now internal. The oldest parts of the house have 19th-century three-light sash windows, one of which has glazing bars, along with two more recent casements. A stud door leads into an added brick porch, and one gable features slightly moulded bargeboards.

At the rear, the house displays close studding and a shallow first-floor jetty with a moulded bressumer and moulded corbels, alongside recent casements. The 19th-century wing is constructed of brick with a stone-capped gable parapet and gable end stacks. It has three bays with recessed sashes, a central stone porch, and two stone bays with slight stop-chamfers, as well as eaves modillions. There are added painted brick blocks at the rear that simulate timber framing.

The interior has been partially inspected and includes an inglenook, some panelling, and doors that may be reused, as well as panelled cupboards of similar date in the 19th-century part. The rear wing features chamfered and ovolo moulded beams, while the central wing has an undecorated cruck on the first floor. The staircase in the back wing has an octagonal newel post.
