Description
This building is a house and attached cottage, likely built in the late 18th century and later modified for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster around the 1830s. It is constructed of coursed red sandstone, featuring added brown brick corbelling at the eaves and the tops of the half-gables. The roof is covered with grey slate and there are four chimneys with Gothick spirally moulded brick flues set on stone plinths. The structure is L-shaped and consists of a two-storey building: the south wing has three windows, while the east wing has two windows that make up the house, and the north window of the east wing serves as the cottage. The open porches have gables supported by two slabs of stone on shaped sandstone brackets. The cottage and the back of the house have iron lattice casements, while other windows are timber replacements in their original openings. The house features an oak board door with ornate wrought iron hinges and handle, while the cottage has a replacement boarded door. There is also a modern glazed verandah on the south face of the house. This is likely the earliest identifiable dwelling associated with the Eaton estate in Eccleston village. The interiors have not been inspected.
