Description

This bridge, built in the 1870s for the 3rd Marquis and 1st Duke of Westminster, is attributed to Alfred Waterhouse or associated with him. It is constructed from rock-faced sandstone with ashlar quoins and voussoirs. The bridge features a single basket arch with quadrant moulded arrises and has projecting rectangular piers on each side. The abutments end in smaller rectangular piers. The parapets are similar to those on the bridge over Aldford Brook and include cast iron panels designed around 1810, which were removed by Waterhouse from the forecourt of Eaton Hall.
