Description
The Vale Royal Abbey Arms is a public house built in 1818, with later 19th-century extensions. It is constructed from tooled ashlar red sandstone and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with three stone chimneys. The building has a symmetrical five-bay front that is two and three stories high. The end bays are lower additions with flat roofs and 16-pane sash windows. The second and fourth bays contain two-light wooden casements with glazing bars, set under flat wedged lintels. The central bay features a gabled porch with a semi-circular arched entrance, which has moulded imposts and a studded door behind. Above the entrance, there is a boldly moulded depiction of the Vale Royal Abbey arms, framed with the building's name carved in gothic script on the sill. There is a casement window above the porch. The rear of the building has some extensions. Inside, there are no original features on the ground floor.
