Description
26 and 28 The Green is a house, now divided into two dwellings, dated 1731, with 19th and 20th century alterations and additions. The exterior features whitened roughcast on stone, a slate roof with stone coped gables, and end stacks, while the porch and bay windows have lead roofs. The building is two stories high with a three-bay front. A central half-glazed timber porch with a hipped roof encloses a six-panel door with glazed top panels. To the left is a later inserted four-panel door. On either side of the porch are three-light canted bay windows with four-pane sashes, and the first-floor windows are similar recessed sashes with painted sills. There are raised bands at the first floor and eaves levels. A tablet between the center and left window is inscribed with a heart, the initials H B A, and the date 1731. Inside, there are six-panel doors, exposed beams, and ceiling joists.
