Description

Hope Cottages comprise a row of six cottages, originally conceived as two groups of three, dated 1853. The cottages were modernised and porches were added in the late 20th century. They are constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble with slate roofs and three stone ridge stacks. The exterior presents four two-storey dwellings and one single-storey dwelling, each with two bays. The windows are largely contemporary, consisting of two-light flush casements featuring glazing bars and night vents. The two-storey cottages have half-glazed doors within added single-storey lean-to porches. The single-storey cottage features a 20th-century panelled door with a timber trellis porch, and a three-light window to the right. A first-floor tablet, centrally located on the two-storey range, is inscribed "Hope Cottages 1853." The interior has not been inspected.
