Description
Nos. 13 and 14 Abbey Square are a pair of cottages built in 1626 for Bishop John Bridgeman to serve as homes for vicars choral. They are constructed from red coursed rubble sandstone and brown brick, topped with a grey slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high with attics, featuring a front gable and a central doorway for each. No. 13 has an added gabled porch and replaced doors. Each cottage has a three-light casement window on either side of the door; No. 13's windows have small panes, while No. 14's have altered glazing. There are two windows on the second storey of each cottage and one window in the attic of each front gable. The main roof runs parallel to the front and connects at the rear of the gables. Each cottage has a four-flue brick chimney at the ridge junction. The interior could not be inspected.
