Description

The cross in the center of Abbey Square is a 19th-century structure built on a possibly earlier base. It is made of red sandstone and features a weathered base with an octagonal plinth that has a two-stepped cap. The tapering shaft consists of eight stones and is topped with a moulded square cornice and a simple cross. It is said that the shaft may have originally been a column from the City Exchange.
