Description
Morris Oak Cottages are two substantial houses built around 1875, now converted into three, designed by John Douglas for the 1st Duke of Westminster as dwellings for upper servants. The cottages are constructed of stone-dressed red brick with red tile roofs and feature a symmetrical, 'U' shaped design that is one and a half storeys tall, showcasing a free Jacobean style. The exterior includes stone and moulded brick bands, as well as ornate moulded brickwork with stone spirelets adorning the gables and dormers.
There are two symmetrically placed stone-capped moulded brick chimneys, and the south (garden) front has two large, ornate brick dormers flanked by gables. The windows feature cast iron casements set in stone mullioned openings, with leaded glazing still present in the bedroom windows on the front and some side windows. The cottages also have two recessed porches with moulded stone surrounds that house 9-panel oak doors, which have moulded stiles, muntins, and rails, along with glazing in the upper panels. One porch contains ornate leaded glazing.
Inside, the cottages feature 9 and 6-panel doors with moulded stiles, muntins, and rails.
