Description
Eccleston Ferry Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1887 by John Douglas for the 1st Duke of Westminster. It is constructed of Ruabon red brick with red sandstone dressings and features some timber framing in the upper storey. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high with a four-bay west front. It has a stone plinth, and the right end bay projects under a gable with a timber-framed upper storey that includes round-headed panels and curved bracing. There is a three-light wooden mullioned and transomed window, and the upper storey is supported on wooden brackets over a canted lower storey with small ogee-headed lights beneath a continuous label mould. The central two bays feature a porch with a segmental stone doorcase that has the date and initials on the lintel. Above the porch, in the gabled dormer, are windows with two ogee-headed lights. The left end bay has blue brick diapering and an inserted 20th-century window. Inside, there is an original oak turned baluster staircase, although the remainder of the interior has been somewhat altered. The farmhouse is situated in a picturesque position, particularly from the Eccleston side of the river, and is located next to a historic crossing point.
