Description
The wall, gate, and screen of railings in front of Salters Well House date from the mid-19th century and are made of red sandstone ashlar and cast iron. The low wall is topped with railings. The front features two courses of large stone blocks with rounded coping at the top. The ironwork includes panels of entwined S-scrolls separated by rectangular panels that have central flower motifs. The central gates are decorated with similar mouldings on their upper sections, star motifs on the lock and dog rails, and additional star motifs on their lower sections, with square bars radiating from these. The gate piers and the terminal piers of the screen consist of rectangular panels that display elongated Greek key motifs and have ramped shoulders supporting double anthemia as finials.
