Description
The Wharf is a former canal warehouse and cottage dating from around 1830, believed to be designed by Thomas Telford. It has been converted into a dwelling. The building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof, featuring a late 17th-century style. It stands two storeys high and has three bays. A large carriageway arch is located in the forward projecting bay, adorned with stone dressing that leads up to moulded springers and a brick arch with a keystone. To the west of the arch is a French window, while to the east is a casement window. The building has stone dressing on the quoins and window openings. The central first-floor casement window is set at eaves level and is situated within a large shaped gable, with flanking windows that are higher but located in smaller shaped gables. Both the east and west main gables are also shaped. The east gable is positioned just a few feet from the towpath of the Middlewich spur of the Shropshire Union Canal. Inside, the raised storage floor and heavy beams reflect the building's former use.
