Description
The sluices, weir, and culvert carrying Shores Clough under the Macclesfield Canal were built around 1830. They are constructed from coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and feature hammer-dressed flat copings. The clough is dammed and includes a spill weir and sluice that manage the water flow through a circular culvert that runs beneath the canal. Additionally, there is a second sluice located on the towpath side, which regulates the canal's water height and has an overflow that curves to join the clough before entering the culvert.
