Description
The corn barn at Lowerbrook Farmhouse dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of coursed squared buff sandstone rubble. It features a roof that is partly covered with Welsh slate and partly with Kerridge stone-slate. The barn is two stories high and has a four-bay front. A tall cart entrance is located near the center and is accompanied by a projecting lean-to porch. There are square pitch-holes on either side of the entrance and two rectangular door openings below it. Additionally, the barn has two lines of ventilation slots. The right end bay is set back slightly and has a now-blocked opening with a weak segmental rubble arch, along with a square pitch-hole above. A flight of stone steps is positioned against the right gable, leading to the loft. The barn, along with the farmhouse, reflects the more prosperous architectural style of the Cheshire Plain, typically built in brick rather than stone. The barn is listed for its group value with the farmhouse.
