Description

Nos. 8 and 10 Princess Street are a pair of shops that may have been purpose-built as both shops and dwellings. They date from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and topped with slate roofs.

The structure consists of two symmetrically-planned units, standing three storeys high and featuring a six-window range. The late 19th-century shop fronts are notable, along with a round-arched doorway to the left that leads to a passage. To the right of this doorway is an original window that has a flat-arched brick head. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes, each with flat-arched gauged brick heads, although the windows in No. 10 are boarded over. There are also 6-pane sash windows in the attic. The buildings have a plain wood eaves cornice and feature axial and end wall stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
