Description
Heesom Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, that dates from the mid 16th century with additions from the early and mid 17th century. It is constructed of red English garden wall bond and rendered brick, topped with a slate roof. The building is two and three storeys high.
The garden front features a late 17th century three-storey section on the left, which has stone quoins at the corners. The bond between the ground and first floors consists of two rows of stretchers supported by a row of alternatively projecting headers. There is a cogged band between the first and second floors. The ground floor has 20th century French windows with a segmental head that cuts through the lower band. A two-light window on the first floor has a cambered head that also cuts through the upper band. To the right is a rendered mid 16th century block with 20th century windows.
On the left side, the stone quoins continue at the corners, with bands similar to those on the garden front. There is a blocked doorway to the right of centre and a blocked window on the first floor to the right. A second floor window on the right is also blocked.
Inside, the mid 16th century section features chamfered end-stopped ceiling beams on the ground floor. There are full cruck blades visible in the parlour and upstairs bedroom. The early 17th century section has had two floors and a sleeping balcony added in what was originally a three-storey block during this century. Wind bracing is present in the purlins.
