Description

Hollingreen Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse dating to the 17th century. It was originally faced with brick in Flemish bond and has a plain tile roof. The front has four bays, with a gabled projection on the left containing French windows on the ground floor and a three-light casement window above. To the right of this are three recessed bays; the middle bay has a six-panel door with the upper four panels glazed and the lower two flush, set within a gabled porch. Ground floor casement windows with cambered relieving arches are on either side of the central door, and three-light casement windows are located above. The rear of the farmhouse has 19th-century additions to the left. A gabled wing on the right displays irregular timber framing on a deep brick plinth, with a jettied gable featuring an ovolo-moulded bressumer and a scroll bracket on the right. The gable has small framing and a central ground-floor doorway, with a single-light window to the right. A central and a two-light window are on the first floor. The interior features chamfered ceiling beams on the ground floor, an ingle nook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and a plank door with strap hinges. The first floor has further chamfered beams and exposed rafters. Group value derives from its well-preserved historic fabric and represents a distinctive example of a vernacular farmhouse.
