Description
This is a late 17th-century barn located south-east of Peckforton Hall. The building is constructed from stone, brickwork, and oak boarded timber framing, topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has four bays. The stonework reaches up to the first floor level, with oak boarded timber framing above this on the north side and east end. The west side has brickwork that replaces the original timbers. Inside, there are splayed "arrow slit" openings in the lower part of the stone wall. The timber framing features closely spaced studs typical for an agricultural building, along with some original heavy floor beams. The trusses have high collars, with four posts rising from the tie beam and braces connecting the timber frame to the underside of the tie beams. The barn also retains an old ridge tree and purlins. At the east end, there is a more recent brick extension of the barn, which is not of interest.
