Description
Barclays Bank, built in 1876, is designed in the Gothic style by architect Thomas Bower. The building is constructed of ashlar and has two storeys with seven windows featuring pointed arched heads, half-column pilasters, and hood moulds. A coffered band runs along the first floor. The ground storey includes two 10-light mullioned and transomed windows with arched lights. To the left, there is an elaborate arched doorway flanked by coupled pilasters and topped with a 'gabled' hood mould. The building features a dentilled eaves cornice and is roofed with green Westmorland slates. Later additions maintain a similar character to the original design.
