Description
The former Methodist chapel, now a printing works, was built in 1836 and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof in a classical style. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range on the Park Street frontage, flanked by lower blocks on each side, with the central three bays protruding. The outer blocks contain entrances with Doric columns framing paired doors that have Greek key incised moulding and overlights. The windows are round-arched with stone heads and feature interlaced glazing above. The central section of five bays (1-3-1) includes 24-pane fixed lights with flat-arched gauged brick heads and interlaced glazing in the upper round-arched windows. A stone string course runs along the three advanced central bays, and there is a continuous sill band for the upper central windows. A stone entablature displays the inscription 'Methodist New Connection, 1836' at the centre. The building has a shallow pediment over the High Street return, which features a four-window range with windows set in full-height recessed panels, a doorway to the left, and a projecting lower two-storey block beyond.
