Description
Fence Almshouses are a set of almshouses built in 1895. They are constructed from red brick with stone dressings and feature mock timbering. The roof is made of stone flags. The building is single-storeyed and has two windows on each side of a central entrance. The entrance is highlighted by a wide segmental moulded stone archway, above which is a raised gable that jetties out. This gable contains a tall three-light mullioned and transomed window, topped by a coved half-timbered gable. The central entrance is flanked by two prominent windows that break the coved eaves line and are topped with coved half-timbered dormer gables. An inscription reading 'Fence Almshouses TUB FDB' is located below the central window. A weather vane sits atop the central gable, and there are axial stacks. The almshouses form a group with Fence House and Nos 88-92 Buxton Road.
