Description
The Roman Catholic Church of St Mary and the adjoining presbytery were built in 1826 and designed by Dr Hall, a priest. The church features a red brick exterior with a stone plinth and has a two-storey facade facing the road. It includes two windows with stone semi-circular heads and a central doorway that has a semi-circular head, a radial fanlight, and a flush panelled divided door. Above the doorway is a stone coped pediment with an arched niche that contains a statue of the Virgin. The building also has a moulded stone eaves cornice and a slate roof. The adjoining presbytery, located on the left-hand side, shares a similar style and is also two storeys high. It has three sash windows with flat brick arches, a sill band, a semi-circular headed doorway with a radial fanlight and a flush panelled door, restored wood eaves, and a slate roof.
