Description
Danesford School, formerly known as West House, is a late 18th-century detached house set back from the road in extensive grounds. The building has undergone later alterations and extensive modern additions. It is constructed of red brick and has two storeys, featuring five sash windows with flat brick and stone sills. The windows on the east elevation are tripartite, set in segmental-headed reveals, and there is a semi-circular bay at the center, tiered over two storeys. The elevation facing the road has a large pediment at the center and a tripartite window in the ground storey, replacing the former entrance doorway. The building also has an eaves cornice and a hipped slate roof. Although the interior has been significantly altered, it retains an oval room on each storey. A large, well-designed Georgian-style bay with four windows and a pediment was added to the left soon after the school was established in 1920. Other modern additions are not included in this description. Danesford School and the obelisk in its grounds form a group.
