Description
A terrace of five houses at 25-31 Park Street, Macclesfield, dating to circa 1830, and later altered in the 20th century. The terrace, which includes No.2 High Street, is now offices. It has three storeys and a ten-window front, with some houses planned as single rooms and others as double-room width, resulting in double-pile plans. Each house features a doorway with an architrave and fluted pilasters recessed into segmental archways, though only one fanlight remains, located in No.29. Original 16-pane sash windows are present on the return elevation of St George’s House and at No.25; the remaining windows are replacements but set within the original openings. The windows are framed by flat-arched gauged brick heads, and a painted sill band runs along the first floor. The building has a wood modillion eaves cornice. The western return elevation (facing High Street) is a three-window range with a porch added circa 1980, and a blind central window space. Axial stacks are present. The terrace is an integral part of the wider architectural grouping including St George’s House, St George’s Street and St George’s Street Mill.
