Description
Birkin Bridge, North Lodge and railing attached is a gate lodge built in the 19th century. It features a red English garden wall bond construction with a slate roof. The entrance front has a stone plinth and a gabled porch at the center. To the right of the porch, there is a 2-light casement window with a cambered head and a stone cill. A stone band runs between the floors. On the first floor, there are two 2-light casement windows, one on each side. The lodge has two gable chimneys. The east and west ends have slightly recessed blind arches with an impost band, and the pedimented gables are adorned with stone cyma dressings. The east end includes a 2-light casement window on the ground floor. There is a 19th-century outshut at the rear. To the left of the porch on the entrance front, a low stone wall with piers at either end runs at right angles to the lodge, featuring plain plinths, heavy chamfering on the piers, and cyma-moulded capitals.
