Description

Ivy House, No. 19 and Holly House is a house that has been subdivided into three residences. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is constructed of whitewashed Flemish bond brick with a plain tile roof. The building stands three storeys tall.

The front of the house, which was modified in the mid to late 19th century, features three bays arranged symmetrically. There are canted bay windows on both the right and left sides at ground floor level, each topped with hipped roofs. In the center, there is a doorway with a pedimental overdoor supported by brackets, leading to a half-glazed door. A band of three bricks in depth separates the ground floor from the first floor, and a similar band is present between the first and second floors. The first floor has three windows with stone sills and wedge lintels, displaying exposed near-flush sash boxes with 3 x 4 panes. The second floor has three similar windows, but with 3 x 2 panes. A modillion cornice runs along the top of the wall.

To the left side of the building, there is a 19th-century addition that is two storeys high. This addition features a tripartite window on the ground floor, which has a small pediment over the central light, and a first floor window with 3 x 4 sash panes. At the rear, there appears to have been a staircase window that extended from the ground to the second floor, but this is now blocked at the right of the center. Additionally, to the right of the ground floor, there is a single-storey service wing that projects at an angle.
