Description
The statue of Napoleon, dated 1837, was created by George Turner for Mrs. Erskine. Originally located on the north front of Adlington Hall, it was moved to its current position, 5 meters from the southeast corner of the hall, in 1929. The statue is made of buff sandstone and features a low square pier designed to resemble masonry. Above this pier is a moulded band and a block with raised panels that read: "Napoleon, This statue done in stone taken from the quarry at Styperson was presented to the Hon Mrs Erskine May 28th 1837 by George Turner, the Sculptor." Atop the structure is a standing figure of Napoleon with his hand in his tunic. Mrs. Erskine was the remarried widow of Thomas Legh VI.
