Description

The College of Technology and Design is a building that began construction in 1888, designed by Smith, Woodhouse and Wiloughby. It is built of brick with yellow terracotta decoration and features a slate roof. The structure has two storeys, a basement, and an attic, and is designed in the Northern Renaissance style. The façade consists of five wide bays, with the first, third, and ninth bays projecting and featuring ornamental gables. The second and fourth bays each have three windows. A central projecting porch has a round arched entrance and angle turrets, with a balcony above. The side bays include projecting canted bays with balustraded balconies. Above the first floor cornice, there is a band of arcading adorned with terracotta ornament, and the building is topped with a balustraded parapet.
