Description
The Vaux tomb, located 196 metres west of the South-East Lodge at Bishopwearmouth Cemetery, is a headstone featuring an urn and column, dating from around 1879. It was created by Roseberry in memory of Isabella Duncan Vaux, who died in 1879, as well as other members of the Vaux family. The tomb is made of ashlar limestone, possibly marble, and includes a stepped base leading to a corniced plinth and a tall tapered square column. The east face of the column features low relief roses above the main inscription, topped with an urn finial. The Vaux family were notable local brewers.
