Description

Numbers 1-6, Valebrooke Gardens, Sunderland, are a terrace of six houses with an attached coach house, dating from 1909. The houses are constructed of brick, with white brick to the front elevation and red brick to the rear, featuring terracotta detailing, and have Welsh slate roofs. The design is symmetrical, with three pairs of houses each featuring square bay windows on the ground floor, these being linked by round-arched porches supported by applied Doric pilasters and sheltered by lean-to roofs. The windows are sash windows with horns, and are tripartite on the ground floor. The central pair of houses (numbers 3 and 4) have hipped dormers with tripartite sash windows. The front doors are elaborately panelled, with over-lights, and some Art Nouveau glass remains. Internal features appear to largely survive. Some window alterations have occurred to the rear elevation. A coach house is attached to the rear of number 6.
