Description
The churchyard walls and gates located to the north and east of the Church of St John were built around 1888 by R Curwen. These structures enclose the grounds of the Methodist church. They are made of rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings, featuring low walls that have chamfered ashlar coping. The walls, from which railings have been removed, are punctuated by wide piers topped with roll-moulded hipped coping. The entrances to the hall and church are marked by wrought-iron gates that include scrolled spandrels and decorative elements, spear-headed dog bars, intermediate bars, and twisted finials on the principal supports. An additional entrance to the southeast of the church currently has no gates.
