Description

A terrace of 24 houses built between 1850 and 1880. The houses are constructed of garden wall bond brick, with painted ashlar dressings. No.17 is painted, and the roofs are covered in Welsh slate, with brick chimneys. Most houses have two storeys with basements to numbers 14-20, and three windows each. Number 1 is wider with four windows, and number 13 is also wider. The left return of number 1 has three windows facing Park Road. The houses step down the slope in groups, with numbers 6-10 set back slightly.

Doors are of the Sunderland type, with panels that fold back to reveal panelled inner doors and overlights; these are located on the left side of numbers 1-12, mostly on the sides of the others, but centrally located in numbers 1 and 13, with flanking canted bay windows. Doorcases feature pilasters supporting a dentil-detailed entablature with a modillion cornice, a similar design to the ground floor canted bay windows. Most sash windows have horizontal glazing bars. Those on the first floor have stone architraves with scroll bracketed cornices and projecting stone sills. An inscribed stone street name plaque, using Roman capitals, is on number 1. The hipped roof has transverse-ridge and a chimney at the left end. Canted bay dormers with slate-hung sides and hipped roofs are found on numbers 1, 5, 14, and 20, some of which are pedimented or arched. Dormers on numbers 7, 8, 9, 17, and 18 have been altered or are 20th century additions.

The left return has wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills to the windows, most of which are blocked except for the first-floor left window, which has horizontal glazing bars. There is a canted bay dormer with a hipped roof on the left return.
