Description

This ice house, dating from the 18th century, is located north of No 45 (No 1 The Limes) on Boldon Front Street in Whitburn. It is constructed of limestone and features an earth mound. The structure has a retaining wall made of rubble, which includes three stone steps at each end. A wall runs parallel to the retaining wall, creating a passage that leads to a 2-metre long entrance tunnel into the domed stone chamber. The interior has a concrete floor.
